Tanto - Yukinaga - NBTHK Hozon Certificate - Tanto Koshirae - Ubu Nakago - Shinto Era - Saitama 72006

¥450,000

A very well-preserved dagger has just arrived. It is equipped with both shirasaya and tantokoshirae. The name Fujiwara Yukinaga is engraved on the nakago. Fujiwara Yukinaga was a swordsmith active in the Takata area of the Bungo region.

The Bungo region has been producing famous Japanese swords since the Kamakura period (1185-1333). The Takata school of swordsmiths, in particular, had been improving the quality of their swords by incorporating the advantages of other schools since the Koto period, and the sharpness of their swords was very good. This made them very popular among samurai. Until the Muromachi period, it was known as Taila Takada, and after the Warring States period, it was known as Fujiwara Takada, which was a major power along with Bizen and Mino.

The sword is in very clean condition with no flaws, dents, or chips at all. The hada mixed with itame and mokume has very active hataraki such as chikei and sunagashi, which is a real pleasure to appreciate. The thin suguha hamon of niedeki is very elegant and combines utility and beauty. It is truly a short sword full of the characteristics of Japanese swords. The Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords has recognized this sword as a work of great value to be preserved for posterity, and has issued a certificate of authenticity for the hozon. Koshirae uses metal fittings that have the flavor of the period, and the metal fittings alone are valuable enough.

The scabbard lacquer is made of multiple coats of lacquer with a unique pattern overlaid on it. The kojiri and kurigata are also decorated with metal fittings, and while being a gorgeous piece of equipment, one can sense the spirit of the samurai.

The price is very reasonable for a sword with such a great body and equipment, so don't miss this opportunity.
